Waterfall Plot Window

A Waterfall Plot Window displays an graph of simulation results for a one-dimensional array of Compartments.

To create a Waterfall Plot Window:

  1. Select a single column or row of compartments in the scheme diagram of a three-dimensional scheme window.
  2. Click the (Create new results window) button.

A Waterfall Plot Style Dialog is displayed.

  3. Select the Waterfall radio button in the Plot Format area of the Waterfall Plot Style Dialog.
  4. Choose the parameter and species you wish to plot.
  5. Click the OK on the Waterfall Plot Style Dialog.

The dialog is dismissed and a new results window is added to the main window according to your specifications:

On this window the vertical axis represents the values of the parameter you selected (e.g. concentration or amount); the horizontal axis is the elapsed time. The third axis marks the compartments' locations in sequential order.

The parameter values also are displayed as a color map. The legend for the color map is positioned to the right of the graph.

When first created, the waterfall plot window is scaled so that all data points are visible.

Mouse Actions

You may scale, move and rotate the graph using the mouse.

To rotate the plot:
  1. Press and hold the left mouse button while over the plot.
  2. Move the mouse cursor while still holding down the button.

The plot changes orientation around a horizontal axis and a vertical axis in coordination with the mouse movement.

  3. Press the Shift key and move the mouse cursor, while still holding down the left button, to rotate the plot around the axis perpendicular to the screen.
  4. When the plot is oriented as you want, release the mouse button.
To zoom the plot:
  • Rotate the mouse wheel forward or backward to change the zoom..
To move the plot:
  1. Double-click and hold the left mouse button while over the plot.
  2. Move the mouse cursor while still holding down the button.

The plot changes location in coordination with the mouse movement.

  3. When the plot is located as you want, release the mouse button.

You also can rotate, zoom and change plot proportions from the Attributes Page of the Three-Dimensional Plot Settings Dialog.

Changing the Plot Scales

You may change the minimum and maximum limits of all three scales by typing in precise numeric values.

To rescale the plot:

  1. Double-click the left mouse button anywhere on the plot.

A Three-Dimensional Plot Settings Dialog opens on its Limits page.

  2. Type or select minimum and maximum values for the ranges of the three axes.
  3. Click OK.

The dialog closes and the graph is rescaled to your specification.

Text View

You may display all the numeric data that comprises the current graphical view as a text-based table. You use the graphical view's Context Menu (see below) to switch to this display. The table may be exported to a text file.

Context Menus

context menus for both the graphical and text views of this window are accessed using a single click of the right mouse button.

The context menu of the graphical view provides the following actions:

Modify...
This action opens a Three-Dimensional Plot Settings Dialog on its Attributes page. There you may change the color map and the plot's orientation and scaling.
Copy
When this menu item is selected, a bitmap image of the plot is placed on the system's clipboard. This image may be pasted into other applications.
Export to Image File...
When this menu item is selected, a File Save Dialog appears that allows you to save an image of the plot to a disk file. The image is saved in Portable Network Graphics (.png) format.
Show in Text Format

The context menu of the text view provides the following actions:

Export to Text File...
When this menu item is selected, a File Save Dialog appears that allows you to save the tabular text to a disk file.
Show in Graphical Format
Selection of this menu item switches the window from text format to graphical format.
Select All
This action selects all text for a pending Copy operation. You may select a portion of the table to copy by holding down the left mouse button while moving the mouse cursor over the text.
Copy
When this menu item is selected, a copy of any selected text is placed on the system's clipboard. This text may be pasted into other applications.
Zoom In
Selection of this menu item increases the font size of the text table.
Zoom Out
Selection of this menu item decreases the font size of the text table.

A Waterfall Plot Style Dialog is then displayed
